Yellowstone Ice Melt Lecture
7:00 PM
Carroll College Campus Center
Description:
The Carroll College Sociology & Anthropology Department are hosting a lecture by Dr. Craig Lee, Associate Professor of the Institute of Arctic & Alpine Research at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Periglacial alpine snow and ice is melting in the Greater Yellowstone Area (GYA) and around the world in response to changing weather patterns. As it melts, some of this ancient ice is releasing an astonishing array of paleobiological and archaeological material. Consistent with the oral traditions of many tribal groups, the ice patch record allows for the conceptualization of the alpine as an ecosystem in balance. The ice patch phenomenon transcends boundaries that divide the GYA with much remaining to be learned about these finite at-risk resources.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
