Description:
Capital High School’s drama department invites audiences to experience "An Enemy of the People," Henrik Ibsen’s classic play that challenges perceptions of truth, morality, and public opinion. The production runs April 24-26 and May 1-3 in the Capital High School
auditorium. Curtain is 7:00 p.m.
This adaptation, directed by Natalie Renk, leans into the play’s central ambiguity—who is truly right, and at what cost? Often staged as a triumphant tale of one man standing against corruption, An Enemy of the People in this production refuses easy answers. Instead, it
highlights the complexity of truth and the consequences of conviction.
Dr. Thomas Stockmann, a scientist, discovers that the town’s spa waters are contaminated, but his attempt to reveal the truth meets resistance from the mayor, the press, and the townspeople. Is Stockmann a hero standing for scientific integrity, or is he reckless, blinded by his own righteousness? Is the town acting out of self-interest, or is there wisdom in their caution? The answers are left to the audience.
