101 Reasons to Celebrate!
5:30 PM
Montana Historical Society (east of the Capitol)
101 Reasons to Celebrate! Description:
Join us for our first public gathering in a year-and-a-half as we launch MHS Press’s newest release, The History of Montana in 101 Objects: Essays from the Montana Historical Society. This full-color, profusely illustrated catalog showcases the remarkable collection of artifacts preserved at MHS. Since 1865, the Historical Society has pursued its mission to collect and protect items of significance to Montana’s past. This incredible assemblage of objects and interpretive essays draws attention to the diversity of experiences—the triumphs and the sorrows, the everyday struggles and joys—that made Montana.

Far Country Press will be joining us with its companion publication, Montana History for Kids in 50 Objects, With 50 Fun Activities! so there will be something for all members of the family. Written by Steph Lehman, this fun-filled guide helps our youngest citizens understand that some historical objects may at first seem plain or unimportant, while others are famous works of fine art; what they all have in common is that they are a key to a piece of Montana’s past. Like memories, they offer glimpses into the lives of the people who lived here before us, the Montana that was, and how it got to be the Treasure State it is today.

Refreshments, activities, and a chance to visit with the authors will round out the evening! Join us on MHS’s front lawn—or we’ll move it indoors if we’re lucky enough to get rain.
