The Myrna Loy
The Myrna Loy center is pleased to offer the Voice, Being and Belonging exhibition (September 14 through October )as part of the Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate series of programming offered this fall in Helena in conjunction with the Montana Human Rights Network. The Speaking Volumes exhibition hopes to stimulates discussion about the dangers of anti-Semitism, violence, racism, homophobia, and bigotry. Voice, Being and Belonging features two women artists, Christina Erives and Natalie Baxter, who are working with culture and their surroundings. Erives is a current Archie Bray resident whose clay sculptures stem from her Mexican heritage, family traditions, and effort to render a narrative that embraces and celebrates the rituals of a new generation. Baxter's work, Warm Gun, meanwhile examines the United States issues of gun violence and masculinity through a collection of colorfully quilted, droopy, caricatures of assault weapons, bringing "macho" objects into a traditionally feminine sphere and questioning their potency.
