Description:
Please join us for our philosophy walk on Sunday, October 13th from 10am-1pm where we’ll be exploring story and imagination across cultures & how these can help us reconnect with nature.
Special guest speakers/philosophers-on-trail — Shane Doyle (Independent Educational & Cultural Consultant, Native Nexus Consulting) & Henry Kramer (2019 Merlin Student Fellow, University of Montana Missoula).
Some of the things we’ll be discussing:
-- The role of story and imagination in Native American communities
-- How story and imagination have contributed to community living and various responses to environmental and social situations
-- -- Myth, metaphor and philosophical reasoning
Rhythm, music, and singing in Native American communities and stories
-- How to cultivate story and imagination in our everyday lives
-- And more…
Meeting/Hike Location: Merlin Nature Preserve (Our group will meet in the Silver City Saloon parking lot -- 6042 Lincoln Rd. West -- and take a hayride from there to the preserve).
You do not need a background in philosophy to enjoy & participate in these walks. An open mind & desire to engage in thoughtful dialogue (whether from a listening or contribution standpoint) is all that’s needed! FREE. $10 suggested donation. Please bring comfortable hiking/walking shoes, water & a light snack. Fresh-brewed iced-tea provided at our outdoor classroom/homestead stop.
**PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO NATURE PRESERVE LOGISTICS, AN OFFICIAL RSVP VIA OUR WEBSITE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS WALK. Space is limited.**
