Annual Memorial Concerts for All Souls
7:30 PM
Cathedral of St. Helena (Nov 1); St. John's Lutheran (Nov 2)
Annual Memorial Concerts for All Souls Description:
Musikanten begins its 14th season of performances in Helena with the annual All Souls concerts, Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2. This year's memorial concerts, with candles lighted for those church members, family and friends who have died in the past year, will feature Gabriel Faure's beloved "Requiem," a warm and soaring setting of the traditional Latin Mass for the dead. Soloists in this work are soprano Heather Barnes and baritone Art Bumgardner, with Eileen Brody, organ.

To open the concert, Artistic Director Kerry Krebill will conduct the choir in motets by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Charles Villiers Stanford, Hugo Distler and Sir John Tavener (his "Song for Athene," performed for the funeral of Princess Di). After a short period of silence for meditation and prayer, cantor Gerald Schafer will chant the names of those for whom the candles are lighted, followed by the Requiem. The concert is performed without intermission, and the congregation is requested to depart in silence, remembering those who have gone before us.

The performances are at 7:30 pm. Wednesday's concert is at the Cathedral of St. Helena, and Thursday's is at St. John's Lutheran Church. Admission is free, with donations for expenses gratefully received. To have a candle lighted and name listed in the memorial program, please email the name you would like listed to musikantenmt@aol.com by October 27.
