The first Montana Playwrights Conference, scheduled for November 2, 3, 2017, at Helena College is offered through a partnership among the Montana Playwrights Network (MPN), the Helena College Foundation, Helena College's Continuing Education department, and the Theatre Arts program at Helena High School. In addition, our supporters include Humanities Montana, Opportunity Bank, Sullivan Financial Group, and many Helena area businesses.

Montana Playwrights Conference Highlights:

Keynote Speaker & Presenter, James Still: As a playwright, James' work has been produced throughout the world. His plays have been nominated four times for the Pulitzer Prize, and have been developed at prestigious institutions such as Robert Redford's Sundance, the New Harmony Project, Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference, and many others. Three of his plays received the Distinguished Play Award from the American Alliance for Theatre & Education. James is the Resident Playwright at Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT), which recently received a 2.5 million dollar gift to honor James Still's 20th season as IRT's Playwright-in-Residence, and officially name the James Still Playwright-in-Residence position in perpetuity through the designation of The James Still Playwright-in-Residence Fund. James is one of the only playwrights in the country to hold such tenure.

The Montana Playwrights Network (MPN) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization incorporated in Montana. MPN was formed to provide a forum focusing on story as expressed through a variety of formats, including but not limited to playwriting, storytelling, poetry, history, non-fiction, essays, memoirs and interpersonal communication. We're looking to connect with writers, storytellers, teachers, theatre companies, libraries, book clubs, and businesses that are interested in story as integral to company cultures.

In short, the Montana Playwrights Network is for people to connect with each other through the important medium of Story. Everything in our lives involves stories of what we do, what we think, what we feel, and what it may mean to others. MPN offers workshops and gatherings for the public throughout Montana.
