Helena High School Theatre
Barrymore's Ghost One Night Only Performance Description:
One Night Only:
Performance of Barrymore's Ghost as a featured event of the RMTA Reunion Party

November 3, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in Helena High School's Theatre

The Montana Playwrights Network announces a stellar performance of the one-man play, Barrymore's Ghost, written by Jason Miller, and performed by veteran actor, Jud Harmon as John Barrymore. Mr. Harmon has toured the inter-mountain west as Barrymore for over ten years, most recently at the historic Orpheum theatre in Twin Falls, Idaho. Under the gifted direction of renowned theatre director, Tony Mannen, this production is the featured event of the Reunion Party of the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association (RMTA). The November 3 performance will be presented at the Helena High School Theatre (1300 Billings Avenue) at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 each; to make reservations for the performance or the RMTA Reunion Party, call 406-235-0353.

The play tells the tale of the life of legendary stage and screen actor John Barrymore. Because of his life of wine, women, and song John Barrymore is sent back to haunt theatres as a penance for squandering his immense talent. Considered the best actor of his generation and the first international film star this is the story of Barrymore's struggle with fame and the life that comes with it. Barrymore takes us through his early struggles as a member of the famous Barrymore family acting dynasty, his failed marriages and his assent and then descent as an actor and a person.

RMTA was founded in 1951, and served the Rocky Mountain region continuously until 2011, when the organization was dissolved due to changing demographics. Helena's Grandstreet Theatre was an active member for over 35 years and hosted many RMTA conferences here. Now, there are several long-time RMTA members (including internationally renowned keynote speaker and playwright, James Still) who are presenting workshops at the first Montana Playwrights Conference, created by a unique partnership among the Montana Playwrights Network, the Helena College Continuing Education department, the Helena College Foundation, and Helena High's Theatre Arts department. This exciting Conference is to be held November 2 & 3 at Helena College.

The Montana Playwrights Network (MPN) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization incorporated in Montana. MPN was formed to provide a forum focusing on story as expressed through a variety of formats, including but not limited to playwriting, storytelling, poetry, history, non-fiction, essays, memoirs and interpersonal communication. We're looking to connect with writers, storytellers, teachers, theatre companies, libraries, book clubs, and businesses that are interested in story as integral to company cultures.

In short, the Montana Playwrights Network is for people to connect with each other through the important medium of Story. Everything in our lives involves stories of what we do, what we think, what we feel, and what it may mean to others. MPN offers workshops and gatherings for the public throughout Montana.
