Carroll Film Screening: Trick or Treaty?
6:00 PM
Carroll College - Simperman Hall - Wiegand Amphitheatre
Carroll Film Screening: Trick or Treaty? Description:
Join Carroll College in recognizing National Native American Heritage Month! The Helena-area community is invited to join us for a screening and follow-up discussion of the film Trick or Treaty? on Tuesday, November 29 from 6-8 p.m. in the Simperman Hall Wiegand Amphitheatre.

Trick or Treaty? reflects the often contradictory interpretations of treaties between First Nations and the "Crown." The film powerfully portrays one community's attempts to enforce their treaty rights and protect their lands, while also revealing the complexities of treaty agreements in contemporary contexts (Obomsawin, 2014).

We are honored to be joined by Mike Jetty, an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation and a Turtle Mountain Chippewa descendant. Mike currently works for the Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) as an Indian Education Specialist.

Carroll faculty Erin Butts (Master of Social Work) will introduce the guest speaker, and Doreen Kutufam (Communication Studies) will moderate the conversation.

This event is hosted by the Countering Bias Subcommittee of Carroll's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, and sponsored by Student Activities. Free and open to the public.
